Regale Salud/The Gift of Health Advocacy Campaign
The H/L Partnership will implement a secondhand smoke advocacy campaign titled Regale Salud (Gift of Health). The objective the Regale Salud Advocacy Campaign is to work with housing facilities and/or small work sites to encourage them to adopt voluntary policies that exceeds AB 13* for smoke-free premises indoors and/or outdoors. Apartment complexes, housing associations and work sites will be targeted in the major Hispanic Media Markets (defined as Fresno, San Francisco/San Jose, Los Angeles and /or San Diego).
*Exceed AB13 is defined as policy adoption in small work sites that are exempt from AB13 (those work sites where there are less than 5 employees and children are not allowed on the premises) and in living spaces (e.g. apartments) that AB13 does not consider. Overall, the Regale Salud advocacy campaign will strive to do the following:
- Implement the adoption of voluntary outdoor and/or indoor smoke-free policies
- Encourage the normalization of smoke-free housing policies (such as in Multiple Housing Units - MHU or apartment complexes) by mobilizing the Hispanic/Latino community to support smoke-free living and work environments
- Conduct focus groups with apartment residents and small work site employees
- Encourage the compliance with current clean indoor air policies and facilitate the adoption of small work site policies that are exempt from AB13
- Develop collateral campaign materials for Regale Salud (e.g. factsheets, a tool kit, talking points)
- Collaborate and support other Proposition 99 funded tobacco control programs throughout California by providing technical assistance and training
- The Regale Salud Advocacy Campaign will utilize the H/L Partnership Mini Grant Program to involve community based organizations in this effort.
